The worsening injury list in the first team squad is causing head coach Mark Wilson some major selection problems in all areas of the team. The most serious is lock Ollie Shakespeare who injured his knee in pre season training and is waiting to see a specialist. The worst fear is that he has damaged his cartilage which will require surgery to repair. His second row colleague Ben Connett is recovering from a virus which has caused him to miss the last three games. he hopes to resume training next week. Flying winger Ian Gowland’s shoulder injury is making good progress, but he is likely to miss at least another week. Hooker Adam Blackford injured his knee in training and is awaiting assessment to establish the extent of the damage. Alan Mitchell’s rib injury is well on the road to recovery and he should be available for selection next week. Flanker Richard Port’s groin injury is responding well to treatment and all being well he will resume training in the next couple of weeks. The absence of prop Wayne Millard is ongoing as he has commitments outside rugby which for the next few weeks means he is unlikely to be able to train or play.
